COLLYHURST CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS

2017 marks a significant milestone for one member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Manchester.

Collyhurst & Moston Lads Club Boxing Club has been celebrating their centenary throughout this year.

A number of events have taken place and publicity about this amazing achievement has been ongoing.

The club has featured on Sky Sports and Box Nation Television, as well as local radio such as BBC Radio Manchester and Galaxy FM.

Much of the year has been building up to a Centenary Dinner which took place at Club 147 in Salford on Friday June 23rd.

As well as celebrating the club’s centenary, the event was also arranged to honour long term volunteer at the club, Brian Hughes who, over many years, has helped many young lads go on to find success as professional Boxers, but who has helped many more find a sense belonging and purpose as a result of being involved at the club.

The Boxing community turned out in force on the evening to help celebrate. Champions past & present, many of whom were former club members, attended the event including Pat Barrett and Robin Reid as well as Tyson and Hughie Fury, also upcoming professional boxers such as Zelfa Barrett, Ben Mulligan and Matthew Ryan.

More is planned for the rest of the year. A book about the club’s history is due to be published and released in October and a play will follow soon after that.

Well done to Tommy McDonagh and Pat Barrett who organised the event and continue to work hard to celebrate the club’s achievement.
