West End Boys & Girls Club took all the honours at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Manchester U14’s 5-a-side Football Tournament on Saturday 11th May 2019.

The day was an eventful one.

Our 5-a-side tournament was declared a #WeStandTogether event in support of #WeStandTogether month taking place throughout May. We Stand Together was formed following the Manchester Arena bombing and aims to bring communities of all sorts together to help create stronger, more united and resilient communities. The Boys & Girls Clubs ethos is very much in support of this, and as many communities were coming together from across Greater Manchester it made sense to Stand Together with #WeStandTogether

George Ferguson from Henshaws leads a Blind Football warm-up

We also took the opportunity to link with our friends from Henshaws who we are working with on the Live Life Go Further project being delivered by the Royal Society for Blind Children. Henshaws came along to our event to raise awareness of visually impaired / blind Football and ran a visually impaired Football warm-up for the lads prior to the start of the tournament. We look forward to working with Henshaws a lot more in the future as part of this exciting and innovative project.

The tournament did eventually get underway and right from the start it was clear that West End were both physically and technically stronger than their opposition. Salford Lads Club put up a valiant effort and almost managed to make it into second place, missing by just one point.

But the winners and runners up places went to West End B and West End A respectably. Both will go through to the National Association of Boys & Girls Clubs tournament taking place on Saturday 8th June at the Football Fives Soccerdome, Trafford Park. All the best to West End for what will be a highly competitive tournament with teams from all over the UK taking part
