LOCAL BOXING CLUB RAISES FUNDS FOR MANCHESTER MENTAL HEALTH CHARITY

A Chorlton based Boxing club has raised almost £5,000 for a local mental health charity in honour of one of their former members.

St John’s Boxing Club have hosted the Mcauley Moran Memorial Show previously in 2015 and 2017 and were hosts again on Saturday 14th September.

Macauley was a promising young boxer but sadly took his own life in 2014, aged 16 and only two weeks after winning a North West Regional title.

It was decided to, once again, support Manchester Mind who provide mental health advice and support at their drop-in session or at their café, based on Streford Road, for 15-25-year olds.

Numerous other Boxing clubs rallied round, bringing their boxers along and with the help of Manchester Boxing legend, Anthony Crolla who presented the trophies and chose the bout of the day, it proved to be a great event with 14 exciting bouts of boxing

With entry fees, donations and a successful auction, almost £5,000 was raised.

Well done to everyone involved, but especially to all those at St John’s ABC who organised it.
