WEST END BOYS & GIRLS CLUB MAKE NATIONAL FINAL

On Saturday 9th June, West End Boys & Girls Club represented Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Manchester in the National Association of Boys Girls Clubs, national 5-a-side Finals, held at the Soccerdome in Trafford Park.

This prestigious event this year hosted 400 young people from all across the UK to see who would be crowned champions of the Boys & Girls Clubs.

There were male and female teams represented in U12, U14 and U16 age groups.

Although this is not a tournament strictly competed for between football teams, the standard remains high. Competitors in years gone by have been Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer, Peter Shilton, Paul Gascoigne and more recently the likes of Michael Carrick and Jermaine Jenas. The quality of competition remains high.

West End Boys & Girls Club were Greater Manchester’s representatives this year and had male teams across all age groups.

But it was there U16’s team that shone the brightest.

Despite the quality of the opposition, and their physical inferiority, the standard of their football saw them make it through to the final.

They would now play Dungannon Youth Centre from Northern Ireland, who were a very physically imposing team.
