BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS INCREASING TABLE TENNIS NUMBERS IN LOCAL YOUTH CLUBS
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Manchester have managed to secure funding from Greater Sport’s Satellite Club funding scheme and also from the High Sheriff’s Police Trust Fund to help increase the amount of physical activity taking place in a number of their youth clubs.
Working with Table Tennis England, BGCGM will provide paid coaching sessions in Table Tennis as well as provide each participating club with some new equipment and training for volunteers.
Andy Hamill, County Director of Boys & Girls Clubs said, “We will be working with at least five of our affiliated clubs to get at least 20-young people engaged in the Table Tennis sessions."
He continued, “The aim is to increase levels of physical activity amongst young people, engage more people in Table Tennis and widen the experience of young people in our clubs.”
Table Tennis England are hoping that this will be the start of a mutually beneficial partnership. Andrea Holt, Northern Development Officer for the governing body said, “We are really pleased to be working with the Boys & Girls Clubs and hope that we can provide positive experiences for the young people as well give local volunteers the skills and confidence they need to carry on the sessions.”
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Manchester will also provide a local Table Tennis tournament that young participants can take part in.
Keep your eyes peeled to see how things progress and how you and your club might be able to get involved in the future.
